About Moms in Tech
- What is Moms in Tech's mission?
- Our mission is to support women in tech through all stages of motherhood.
- What's a 'Mint'?
- Mint is the term of affection we use to describe members of the group. It's a nickname playing off of **M**oms **in** **T**ech.
- How many people are in the group?
- We have more than 19,000 members in 84 countries and on every continent except Antarctica — with more joining every day.
- Is Moms in Tech a global group?
- Yes. Our largest membership is in the U.S., but we have members on every continent except Antarctica.
- Is Moms in Tech a nonprofit?
- We operate as an LLC rather than an official nonprofit. No one on the mod team makes any money from Mints — we are a 100% volunteer crew. Merchandise sales help offset operating costs.
Joining the community
- How do I join Moms in Tech?
- The community exists primarily on Facebook and operates by invitation only. You'll need a current member to invite you and guide you through the process. If you don't have an invite, subscribe to the mailing list to stay informed.
- Do I have to pay to join the community?
- Nope. The community is free. (Mints+ is an optional paid membership tier with extra perks — but the community itself is free forever.)
- Who can join Moms in Tech?
- To join, members must (1) work or have worked in tech (any position at a tech company or tech role elsewhere), (2) not identify as a man, and (3) identify as a mom — including step moms, adoptive moms, foster moms, those trying to conceive, or someone who's lost a pregnancy or child.
- I'm trying to get into tech, can I join?
- The group serves those already in or formerly in the tech industry. We encourage you to reapply once you've broken into tech.
- I'm not in tech anymore, can I still join?
- Yes. The community encompasses anyone with the shared experience of being a mom in tech, whether now or in the past.
- I'm a pet mom, does that count?
- While moderators understand pet ownership's significance, our group is specifically focused on supporting moms of human kiddos.
- Can I join Moms in Tech if I'm pregnant or trying to have a child?
- Yes. Those identifying as moms in tech who are pregnant or actively trying to grow their family may join.
- What if I know I want kids one day, but am not trying yet?
- We welcome members who are actively trying to grow their family rather than those considering parenthood at some indefinite point in the future.
Inside the group
- What happens in the group?
- Our community is a robust place where people can get information, share experiences, attend events, job seek, and talk about just about any topic you can imagine. Members exchange advice, share career experiences, network, and access 20+ active subgroups covering various topics.
- Where can I find all of the subgroups?
- A post in the Featured section of the main group lists all available subgroups.
- Do you allow advertising in the group?
- No. We don't allow advertising or promotion of any kind in the group.
- Can I join Moms in Tech to promote my small business?
- We don't allow promotions of any kind in the group, so it would not be a good fit for you if that's your goal.
- Can I use the group for market research?
- Market research isn't permitted in the main group, though our entrepreneurs subgroup welcomes input requests from members.
- Do you allow Mints to post in the group anonymously?
- Anonymous posting was discontinued after diminishing community trust. Two exceptions exist: the Single Moms in Tech group (due to legal and safety concerns) and the Jobs and Networking subgroup (for job search privacy).
- Does Moms in Tech host live events — virtual or in person?
- Yes. We frequently host online events covering all sorts of topics — expert-led sessions on real estate, web 3.0, interview coaching, and more. Local subgroups also organize in-person meetups.
